This debut album intends to serve two purposes. First, it sets to reintroduce early Polish popular music in its original style to a modern audience, with a focus on Polish Tango and lesser-known compositions. Second, it is a representation of the work of Mała Orkiestra Dancingowa and its repertoire.

Scores played and recorded by Varsovian dance orchestras of the time were never published, so it was first necessary to recreate them, using surviving recordings to make transcriptions of the original arrangements. Those were then edited and rearranged for our ensemble.

Not only scores were needed, but also an intimate understanding and feeling of the musical style, which had changed drastically over the past century. Practices, which were obvious to the original performers of these pieces, are peculiar and unnatural for modern musicians. For this reason, we give special attention to performance conventions that were present when this music was first composed and performed.
